About BCS Gun Class (BCSOCC)
I am an Army Veteran, current law enforcement officer, and gun enthusiast. I enjoy teaching and have done so throughout my military career and my current job. My focus when teaching students new to handling guns is safety first and foremost, without being overbearing and burdensome to the students experience. I understand people have different means for wanting to learn to handle a firearm and varying means to learning, and I adjust for each one.
My License to Carry certification course is primarily online at www.bcsgunclass.com. I conduct group classes for certification at Brushwood Outdoor, LLC in Bryan, TX. I teach private classes for basic pistol, LTC prep, and I am certified to teach the Armed First Responder Course for groups of students that the requirements apply to. All of my certifications are through the NRA and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). I am always looking to improve and enhance my training and help safety minded, responsible gun owners obtain their license or become better shooters.

Policies
Cancellation Policy
Students may cancel the online LTC course by not progressing in the course or by letting the 60 day material availability expire. Refunds for cancellation are subject to our refund policy and student activity. See refund policy.
Students may cancel any range class 24 hours prior to the appointed time and will receive a refund minus $10 to cover our proccesing fees and instructor preparation and incidentals.
Reschedule Policy
Students are unable to reschedule the online LTC course as it is ongoing, self-paced and available for 60 days from registration and payment. Students may request a consideration to extend the 60 days the material is available. Students requesting an extension must have already made substantial progress in the course (at least 45%). Once the 60 days has expired, extensions will not be considered and the student must re-register if they wish to continue from where they left off.
Students may reschedule any range class for a date already scheduled on the calendar. Fees paid will carry over to the rescheduled class. A request to reschedule the class must be submitted to admin@bcsgunclass.com at least 24 hours prior to the currently scheduled class. There are no refunds for no shows or missed appointments.
Refund Policy
Students that have enrolled and registered payment for the online LTC class are considered to have started the course due to the nature of the presentation of material. The course material once available is accessible for 60 days. Within that 60 days, students are responsible for completing the 4 hour course. There are restricted refunds once the course is started. Students that fail to complete the course for any reason other than failure of the online platform to function properly, or who do not make any progression in the course, or decide they no longer want to take the course after registering payment will not receive a refund. A student may receive a refund or restart the course at no cost if it is determined that the online platform host site is offline or otherwise unavailable for technical reasons for more than 7 consecutive business days and the student has not progressed more than 45% in the course (3 course modules). BCS Gun Class administrators will work with those students on a case by case basis after emailed notification to admin@bcsgunclass.com from the student of the host site experiencing technical difficulties, with a description of the issue, including time, date, device being used (iPhone, Android, laptop, etc.). The student agrees that the administrators and technical support team have 3 business days from the first registered complaint by the student to resolve the technical issue. If the reported technical issue is unresolved after 3 business days, provided the student has been available via emailed communication to test the resolution, the student may request to be reset in the system and begin the course again at no cost or receive a refund. A student's inability to access the host site due to their equipment failure or data failure does not warrant a refund as applicable to this policy. A student who is unwilling to work with the administrators or technical support team may not receive a refund.
A student may receive a refund for a cancelled range class within the constraints of the cancellation policy, minus a fee of $10 to cover our processing fees and instructor preparation and incidentals. A student removed from the range for safety reasons or the inability to follow instructions, operate their firearm safely, or for any reason leave the range facility (even if they return) will not receive a refund from Brushwood Outdoors, LLC or BCS Gun Class. There are no refunds for "no shows". The instructor will wait 15 minutes past the scheduled appointment time before you are considered a no-show.

Frequently Asked Questions
Question?
I am shooting the range proficiency and paid for the class. Why do I also have to pay a $15 fee to the range?
Answer
The range we use is a private range and a small business that generates costs in maintaining it to a high standard. They provide the target stands which take quite a beating from all the action the range sees and need repair or replacing. There is a cost to maintain them in good condition so that students taking the exam have the best opportunity to have a secure target (can't hang a target from a broken or raggedy stand). The grounds are clean and well maintained so shooters can enjoy themselves. If it is any consolation, the range fee paid by our students is far less than the daily fee paid for by the general public when the range is open to the public.
Question?
What should I wear when I go to the gun range?
Answer:
Proper and safe dress is important on the range. Basic rules are: a) no open toe shoes b) avoid tank tops and low cut shirts (hot brass may find it's way there...) c) a baseball type cap is recommended along with a shirt with a turn-up collar d) hearing and eye protection is required. If you wear prescription eye glasses they are usually OK if large enough to prevent hot brass from hitting the eyes. The wearer assumes the risk of any damage to prescription glasses or injury from broken glass from the prescription glasses. No recommendations are made by BCS Gun Class as to make/model or brand of required safety gear. Personal preference is king.
Question?
Will the License to Carry or LTC class teach me to shoot?
Answer:
The Texas LTC class is a very good class but it does not teach shooting. It teaches Texas law as it relates to concealed and open carry. You need a basic knowledge of your handgun to qualify on the range, shooting center of mass a total of 50 rounds at a B27 target from 9 feet, 21 feet, and 45 feet. If you want to learn to shoot, we recommend our basics class which is available as private instruction. If you have a group of friends that want to learn to shoot, we can arrange that as well. The basics class is a great way to prepare for your LTC. Students that show up for the LTC range exam and are unable to demonstrate proficiency with a handgun will be removed from the range and directed to a Basics/101 class.
Question?
I would like to purchase a firearm but don't know where to go. Can you help me?
Answer:
We can help you to find and purchase the firearm that is right for you. Based on your personal carry preferences and budget, we search local and online stores (wholesale and retail) to help locate your chosen firearm at the best price, from a wide selection through our FFL service. An FFL is required for you to receive a firearm you have purchased online. Our FFL serves Brazos, Grimes and Robertson counties as they are well within driving distance for a scheduled pickup.
Question?
I have never held a handgun before and I would like to try. What course is good for me?
Answer:
A great place to start is our Basics class. We spend time going over every aspect of handguns, including it's operation, troubleshooting, cleaning and safe storage. We practice on the same target used in the LTC range proficiency test.
Question?
Where are the classes taught?
Answer:
Our LTC course is all online, available on any mobile device when convenient for the student. Upon completing the online course, we provide you with the certification course to give to any licensed firearms instructor anywhere in Texas to complete the range requirement. We also conduct classes in person but a group is required, minimum 5 students. Our range proficiency tests are held at Brushwood Outdoor, LLC in Bryan, Texas.
Question?
I have small children at home and I am concerned about home safety. What should I do?
Answer:
The NRA Home Firearm Safety Class will teach you how to safely store your firearms and ammunition and it will teach you what to tell your children should they ever see a gun at your house or a friends house. Our online LTC course has a module dedicated to safe gun storage and protecting children. The main things to tell your children if they see a firearm are:
- STOP
- Don't touch
- Leave the area
- Tell an adult
Question?
I would like my children learn how to shoot and be safe around guns. How old do they have to be to take a class?
Answer:
Teaching children gun safety can occur at any age. Handling of any fiream is dependent on the maturity of the child to understand the magnitude of the responsibility of safe handling and operation. We view each child individually and assess their aptitude and attitude towards gun safety before engaging them in any instruction.
Question?
I am pregnant. Is it ok for me to shoot handguns or shotguns?
Answer:
We suggest that you consult your doctor for recommendations on safety. Some gun ranges have rules that restrict pregnant women for their safety. Risks are always present when handling any type of firearm, from debris or discharge of gases to exposure to gunpower residue or lead.
Question?
What if I do not pass the handgun proficiency?
Answer:
Most people who do not qualify are absolute first time shooters, have never held a handgun other than at the store, and do not shoot regularly for recreation, hunting, or practice. If you have handled and shot a firearm before, this scenario of not passing is highly unlikely. If for some reason it does happen, we will offer you a second chance to qualify. You would need an extra 50 rounds, which you can buy at the range or from the instructor (9mm). If you still do not pass on the second attempt we could arrange a private lesson for a different day to help improve your skills and when you are ready, we can administer the handgun proficiency for you again. Upon passing the qualification we will note the completion on your training form.
