About Responsible Defense Firearms Training | RDFT
Carlos "Charlie" Rivera is an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor and Range Safety Officer, a member of the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), and an associate member of ASIS International (previously known as the American Society for Industrial Security ).
His career started with the United States Army where he ultimatlely served a Tank Commander of M1A1 / A2 main battle tanks. While serving in Germany, Charlie competed for and acquired the Gold Schützenschnur (Gold Marksmanship Badge of the German Armed Forces) in 1990, and from where he was mobilized for combat during the Persian Gulf War (Desert Shield and Desert Storm) receiving various decorations for his actions during the Battle of the Medina Mountain Range. For his meritorious performance in the Middle East, he was selected to serve as a Soldier/ Instructor at the National Training Center (NTC) of the United States Army as part of the elite OPFOR (Opposing Forces) ,a specialized unit of the armed forces whose mission is to operate as enemy combatants in wargame scenarios fighting against Coalition Forces that included the United States and other members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). As an OPFOR soldier, he operated and trained with Soviet weapons and tactics and the disbanded Warsaw Pact , the same weapons and tactics our enemy combatants use today as combat doctrine.
Years later, as a civilian, he joined the Federal government where he served as a facilitator/instructor and then Director of an Integrated Conflict Management System. Today he continues to serve in the Federal government as Assistant Director of Security Operations. His responsibilities, while continuous and demanding, have not diminished his passion for training.
Charlie is deeply committed to promoting the safe handling of firearms for defensive and sporting use. But most importantly, Charlie is a family man, a father, and a highly committed citizen.
