Description
The intent of the “Projecto Orquídea” is to provide resources and support services to victims of domestic and gender violence. It is about helping people develop techniques such as vigilance, assertiveness, and conflict management skills in combination with security strategies and physical techniques to prevent, resist, and escape violent assaults.
In extreme cases, and at the discretion of the victim, it is proposed to educate on the legal, effective and responsible use of firearms as a viable alternative.
Under Puerto Rico Law 168-19, Article 2.14, expedited procedures for gun licensing and authorization to carry weapons are established for victims of domestic violence and stalking.
If a firearm is put in the hands of someone who is not trained and is afraid, the same is much more likely to be used against them.
It is not about putting firearms in the hands of those who have never owned one before. It is not about putting weapons in the hands of someone who is terrified due to the trauma caused by an abusive relationship. It is about educating different social groups about the benefit, responsibility and consequences of the use of firearms. It is about creating more opportunities for education on the rights, responsibilities and techniques of armed defense.
