Description
This course is designed to teach non-medically trained individuals how to deal with emergency medical situations in an increasingly dangerous world. The course covers the basics of trauma management, treatment until EMS arrives, and what to do if EMS is delayed. We will discuss crisis mindset, and some basic anatomy and physiology. From this foundational knowledge, we will cover how to assess and treat a patient, a layered approach to medical equipment, and culminate with multiple scenarios in which the student will treat one or more simulated patients. Each scenario will finish with a peer and instructor critique. The scenarios build upon previous training to bring the student up to a level at which they are competent to perform basic treatments in most emergency situations. The training will remain within the legal boundaries of treatments a non-medically trained individual in N.C. is permitted to perform in an emergency.
