Description
You will be able to apply for your Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) at the end of this class. This class is a requirement if you are interested in becoming an NRA Pistol Instructor.
This course is 8 hours long and includes both classroom and range time. The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience. You do not to know how to shoot to take this class. This is an instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. The range we will be shooting at is the most modern, beautiful gun range in Maryland!
If you already have your HQL and if you own a handgun, please bring it with you to class along with eye protection, ear protection, and 150 rounds of ammunition. Please leave your ammunition in your car until instructed otherwise.
If you do not own a firearm don't worry one will be provided for you. Please let the instructor know.

Topics Covered
You don't need any experience at all. Just a willingness to learn and the right attitude. You will learn gun safety rules, different types of pistols and which one is best for you.
You will be able to handle all different types of hanguns from semi-automatics to revolvers. These will include everything from Glocks, to Sig Sauers, to Single Action and Double Action Revolvers. You will able to examine everything from custom made competition handguns, to the Colt Single Action Army, to different kinds of concealed carry firearms.
You will learn about different types of ammunition, the fundamentals of pistol shooting, the different shooting position, and how to deal with the most common shooting errors. You will also be taught how to properly clean and maintain your firearm.
Expectations and Outcomes
At the successful completion of the class you will be able to apply for your Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL). You will also receive an NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Certificate.
