Description
This class is intended to introduce new through intermediate shooters to the AR-15, or similar, style carbines. The most popular rifle type currently available in the United States, the semi-auto carbine excels in both sporting and defensive applications across a variety of use cases.
This course is designed and intended to give the student a basis of understanding on how to run their carbine efficiently and effectively with accuracy on demand. Students will learn proper gun mount and stance, how to select ammunition for specific use cases, safe administrative handling. how to zero the carbine with their load of choice, manipulations and clearing stoppages.
Students will also learn how to set up their gun and its associated gear for success.

Expectations and Outcomes
At the end of this class the student should:
- Understand the various types and configurations of semi-auto carbines
- Understand the fundamentals of proper gun mount
- Understand how to properly zero the carbine
- Understand ready positions and safety manipulations
- Understand how to clear common stoppages
- Be able to demonstrate correct steps for loading, down loading and adminitrative handling
- Expect to complete several live fire exercises
- Fire a qualification exercise to an 80% rate

Requirements
Student needs to bring:
- A semi-auto carbine such as an AR-15 or similar. AK pattern carbines are also acceptable
- .223 (5.56mm) or greater
- Pistol caliber carbines are acceptable with instructor approval
- Students may substitute a .22 LR carbine with instructor approval
- At least two magazines for the carbine
- Sling optional but not required
- 100 rounds of ammunition
- Ear and eye protection
- Gloves are optional but not required
- Clothing
- A brimmed hat, ball cap works well
- Crew neck, collared polo or collared button front shirts work well, low cut shirts are not appropriate for safety reasons
- Closed toe shoes or boots (required)
- Water or thirst quencher
- Light snacks,
- Sunscreen
