Description

Expectations and Outcomes
Each Student will take away a better situational awareness, more safety cautious and an all around confidence with their firearms of choice.
Each student upon successful completion will depart with a CERTIFICATE that can be used to for proof of "pre-requisite" for next level skillset courses

Requirements
Firearm, Equipment and Ammo Requirements:
The weapon must be fully functional, have all factory-installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications (such as a “hair” trigger less than 4 pounds (for Double Action (DA) pistols, this refers to the initial trigger press when the pistol is de-cocked), removed trigger guard, etc.)
“Pocket Pistols” are not allowed due to their very small size and difficulty of use.
Holsters must be on the belt, correctly fit the weapon, completely cover the trigger guard, remain open when the weapon is removed, not allow the weapon to cover the shooter’s body, and not have a trigger guard retention device (such as the Blackhawk SERPA model and others). NO thigh rigs, cross-draw, etc.
A minimum of three magazines and two single or one double magazine pouch is recommended. Magazine pouches worn on the belt on the side opposite the handgun. Speed loader holders worn in front of the holster.
Electronic hearing protection is mandatory and available at numerous retailers. (Peltor Style)
Sturdy belt, hat with brim, wrap around impact resistant eye protection, loose pants, comfortable shoes or boots, etc. You will need a concealment garment in the afternoon of Day 1. (Loose shirt, vest, jacket, etc.)
Required Ammunition\Approved Ammunition:
FACTORY NEW AMMUNITION ONLY - NO EXCEPTIONS
Due to the potential liability and hazards of using reloaded or remanufactured ammunition, all ammunition used at Miller Protective Service or Recoil Management Group must be new, factory-made ammunition. We require the use of jacketed bullets. The bullet design may be full metal jacket (FMJ), total metal jacket (TMJ), jacketed soft point, or jacketed hollow point.
Prohibited Ammunition:
Do not bring the following types of ammunition or bullets:
Steel jacketed bullets (TEST YOUR AMMUNITION WITH A MAGNET BEFORE ARRIVING!)
Steel core bullets (TEST YOUR AMMUNITION WITH A MAGNET BEFORE ARRIVING!)
Lead bullets with no jacket (except for use in revolvers)
Lead bullets with a thin copper “wash”, such as American Ammunition (not to be confused with American Eagle Ammunition made by Federal Cartridge Company)
Armor piercing, tracers or other incendiary ammunition
Steel shot, magnum loads or 3” shells for shotguns
Ammunition Quantity:
Bring the following quantities of new, factory-made ammunition for your specific course:
Handgun Courses (9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, 10mm, .45, .38 Special, and .357 mag)
1-Day Defensive Handgun I: 300 rounds
Age Requirements:
16 to 17 years old, welcome to take regular firearms courses alone as long as a parent or guardian is onsite; parent or guardian can be enrolled in a different course or on a different range.
Minimum age is 11 if taking the course with a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian MUST be the one working with the child during the entire course and be responsible for only ONE child.
