Description
The NRA Basic Rifle Course is designed to teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.
The course will take place Saturday, April 12th from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Topics Covered
This course will include:
- NRA’s rules for safe gun handling
- Rifle parts and operation
- Rifle ammunition
- Rifle shooting fundamentals
- General Range rules
- Shooting from different positions including the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions
- Cleaning your rifle
- Continued opportunities for skill development.
Expectations and Outcomes
As participants in this class, Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet.
Students will complete a Basics of Rifle Shooting (BoRS) Student Examination and receive a class completion certificate.

Documentation Requirements
A valid Driver License and a valid Ohio CCW/CHL is strongly recommended.
Student must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Person - a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) and possess a valid Driver License or Government Issued Identification to participate in this course. Please note that Visa holders (Work, Travel, Etc.) are not eligible to participate in any Northpointe Training LLC courses involving firearms.
This course is for individuals who are not disqualified from possessing and/or using a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, are of good repute, and possess a valid Driver License or Government Issued Identification.
Requirements
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Valid Driver License
- Notetaking materials
- Rifle (if needed, this may be borrowed from Parma Armory) – Please note .22 caliber firearms are NOT acceptable for this class
- 200 rounds or more of proper factory ammunition for your firearm – NO RELOADS!! FYI, the more ammo you have, the more we will be able to shoot. If needed, ammo may be purchased from Parma Armory.
- Eye and ELECTRONIC ear protection
- A brimmed hat or baseball cap
- Tight necked-T-Shirt or long sleeve shirt (Hot brass BURNS!!)
- Shooting mat, if desired, for prone shooting
- Long pants
- Knee pads, if desired, for kneeling shooting positions
- Closed-toe shoes or boots (NO dress shoes, flip flops, sandals, etc.)
- Hydration, snacks, and lunch
- A Positive Attitude!!
- Due to the amount of material we will need to cover, we will have a working lunch. Door Dash, Grub Hub, etc. are available to deliver to our location
