Description
This intent of this 3-day course is to develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course.
The course breakdown is as follows:
Day 1: Instructor Candidates must attend and pass the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Instructor-Led Training Course (i.e., as a Student), and must achieve a minimum score of 90% on the written examination and the shooting qualification.
Day 2: Instructor Candidates must attend and must actively participate in the 6-hour Basic Instructor Training (BIT).
Prior to Day 3: Prior to the Instructor Training protion of the course, all Instructor Candidates will complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm proficiency in pre-course assessment exercises, including a shooting qualification. The pre-course qualification will have a minimum passing score of 80 out of a possible 100 points.
Day 3: Instructor Candidates will then proceed to complete the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Training Course (as an Instructor Candidate), and must achieve a minimum score of 90% on the written examination and the shooting qualification.

This course includes three (3) full days of training covering the following courses:
- NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting - Instructor Led Training (student level course, required pre-requisite) - 8 hours
- NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) - 6 hours
- NRA Pistol Instructor Training Course - 10 hours

Expectations and Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, achieving passing scores on the written exams and shooting qualifications, and after successful submission of paperwork and payment of applicable fees to the NRA, the Instructor Candidate will be Certified as a Basics of Pistol Shooting (BOPS) Course Instructor.

Documentation Requirements
A valid Driver License and a valid Ohio CCW/CHL is strongly recommended.
Student must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Person - a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) and possess a valid Driver License or Government Issued Identification to participate in this course. Please note that Visa holders (Work, Travel, Etc.) are not eligible to participate in any Northpointe Training LLC courses involving firearms.
This course is for individuals who are not disqualified from possessing and/or using a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, are of good repute, and possess a valid Driver License or Government Issued Identification.
Requirements
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Valid Driver License
- Notetaking materials
- 1” 3-Ring Binder
- Firearm (if needed, this may be borrowed from Parma Armory) – Please note .22 caliber firearms are NOT acceptable for this class
- 200 rounds or more of proper factory ammunition for your firearm – NO RELOADS!! FYI, the more ammo you have, the more we will be able to shoot. If needed, ammo may be purchased from Parma Armory.
- Eye and ELECTRONIC ear protection
- A brimmed hat or cap
- Closed-toe shoes or boots (NO dress shoes, flip flops, sandals, etc.)
- Drinks, snacks, and lunch
- A Positive Attitude!!
- Due to the amount of material we will need to cover, we will have a working lunch. Door Dash, Grub Hub, etc. are available to deliver to our location
