Description
This course is at ~8 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
**This course is a required prerequesite for those intending to take the NRA Rifle Instructor Course.**
Topics Covered
Basic Rifle Marksmanship skills from both benchrest and standing positions
Anatomy of a rifle (may include bolt, semi auto, pump, hinge, lever), disassembly and cleaning
Basics of rifle ammunition
Fundamentals of shooting
Range time to include coaching from an NRA Rifle instructor
Expectations and Outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will have the basic knowledge and skills to safely operate, shoot and clean their rifle. Upon successful completion of this course, including safe firearm handling demonstration, basic marksmanship skills demonstrated on the range and a passing score on a writen exam, students will recieve an NRA Certificate of Completion for Basic Rifle Shooting.
