Description

NRA CCW: NRA CCW takes place in a traditional classroom and range environment. This course may be completed in a single day format or over several days with smaller blocks of instruction. Course topics include: Firearm Safety (Mandatory), Pistol Nomenclature and Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, Drawing from Concealment, Loading and Stoppage Remediation, Mindset, Carry Modes and Pistol Concealment, Firearm Cleaning, and Sport Shooting and Training Activities. Course length is determined by the Instructor, to meet your State’s requirements for a CCW permit. Additionally, students may complete live fire training

Topics Covered

The NRA CCW course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense. The course covers topics such as:
  • Safe gun handling
  • Concealment principles
  • The difference between cover and concealment
  • Drawing from the holster
  • Mental awareness
  • Developing the proper mindset for personal defense
  • Clearing common stoppages
  • Various ways of carrying and shooting with a concealed pistol 

    The NRA CCW course is designed to meet the minimum state requirements for applying for a concealed-carry permit. It's open to anyone, regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation. The course can be conducted in a classroom and on a shooting range.

Requirements

Students will need - for the classroom & range - a pistol (.22cal, .380 or 9MM caliber recommended), 2 magazines or speed-loaders, outside-the-waistband holster & a strong wide belt, long pants with belt-loops, a light concealment garment, 2 magazine or speed-loader pouches, 300 rounds of ammunition, eye & hearing protection, and a positive attitude!  Firearms should be cased

Range Rules

 
  • All state, federal, and local firearms laws must be obeyed.
  • Always obey all range safety officer commands immediately.
  • Always treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
  • Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
  • Do not point the firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy.
  • Do not shoot targets in other lanes or the target carrier system.
  • Firearms are to be cased and uncased, muzzle pointed downrange, and loaded in the shooting stall only.
  • Do not move firearms from stall to stall; ask a range safety officer.
  • No shooting without sight picture.
  • No steel core or bi-metal jacketed ammo allowed. We can check the tip of the projectile with a magnet if you are unsure.
  • Black powder firearms are not allowed to be fired in our range.
  • Call “Cease fire” when an egregious safety violation is observed; if unsure, notify a range safety officer.
  • Rapid fire allowed only when under shooter control.
  • Leave the shooting stalls as you found them.
  • You may collect your brass only.
  • No food, drinks, smoking, or electronic cigarettes in the range.
  • Alcohol or drugs of any kind are prohibited on the premises. Anyone found to be under the influence will be asked to leave.
  • No open-toed shoes allowed in the range.
  • Place targets underneath the top black line of the cardboard backer.
  • Keep profanity at a minimum (accidents happen but be courteous of those around you).
