Description
A novice shooter may be unfamiliar with the safe handling of a weapon, lack basic knowledge of firearm mechanics, and may have never discharged a firearm or only done so casually without formal instruction in safe weapon handling or marksmanship.
Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training is the NRA's initiative to meet the American public's demand for an orientation program for new firearm purchasers.
The NRA FIRST Steps Pistol program is structured to offer a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation of a specific type of pistol action, tailored for small classes with no more than four students.
Topics Covered
Lesson I: Introduction to Pistol Safety, Parts and Operations
Lesson II: Intriduction to Ammunition and Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
Lesson III: Introduction to Pistol Shooting from the Benchrest Postion
Lesson IV: Introduction to Pistol Cleaning, Storage and Training Opportunity
Expectations and Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this training, students will be awarded FIRST Steps Pistol certification featuring the NRA logo. This certification enables the application for most state CCW permits and the Maryland HQL for residents of Maryland.
