Description

This is a 2-Day course (8am-6pm the first day, and 8am-2pm day two). Students will receive two handbooks (NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting, and Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home). Day one consists of all classroom time and day two is almost all range time.

Day one topics are: firearms safety, pistol nomenclature and selecting a pistol for self-defense, types of ammunition for self-defense, basic defensive pistol skills, drawing from concealment, loading and stoppage remediation, having a winner’s mindset, situational awareness, “Fight/Flight/Paralyzed type responses”, the proper response to  an identified threat, Deadly Force and when that right ends, better skills to communicate with law enforcement after a shooting, knowledge of home security and defense plans, and students will be given a take-home test.

Day two consists of going over the take-home test, drawing from a holster, cover and concealment meanings and how to use them, the enhancement of the students firearms fundamentals, sighted fire and point shooting differences, single-handed shooting, dry-fire shooting drills, and then the shooting test.

  • A 1-Hour lunch break will be provided both days.
  • Successful students will also receive your MSP Certified Qualification Score Sheet to be submitted with their application for handgun permit.
  • Pricing does not include ammunition or the rental of a handgun.

NOTE: Successful completion of this class does not guarantee that students will receive a permit to carry a firearm. Students must still pass all of the required background checks to qualify.

Expectations and Outcomes

Students will receive an NRA Certificate upon successful completion of the course to be submitted to Maryland State Police for a Concealed Carry Permit. Also the student will receive the instruction of techniques and strategies to help avoid, deter, repel or escape an attack with or without the use of a firearm.

This course satisfies all the requirements as issued by the Maryland State Police for the MD Wear and Carry Permit application, Iron Sights Training Academy does not guarantee that the applicant will receive the Wear and Carry Permit.

Govt ID, ie., Drivers License or passport photo required at first day of class.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.

Requirements

For students to be successful in this course, they MUST bring with them the following equipment:
• Pistol appropriate for concealed carry – (Or, a rental can be provided for the test on Day-2);
• Strong Side OWB Hip Holster – Recommend form fitted leather or Kydex and must cover the trigger/trigger guard;
• Belt - Strongly recommend belt designed to support a holster and a firearm;
• Ammunition - Suitable for practice (200 rounds minimum);
• Spare magazines or speed loaders with appropriate pouches – At least two additional (3 total);
• Clothing appropriate for concealed carry (Over garment, jacket, vest, oversized shirt, etc.);
• Eye protection - Safety eye-wear and/or prescription eye-wear is acceptable; and,
• Hearing protection - Electronic recommended.
• 9mm Ammunition will be available for purchase if needed
An inspection of your equipment will be conducted for each student upon arrival at this course.
If you do not have the necessary equipment, please let us know and we will be happy to loan you what you need at no charge.
NOTE
• Students must be legally eligible to possess and/or transport a firearm.
