Long Range Basics

Description

This is an entry level course so new shooters will feel comfortable, but it is also a great class for those who may not have shot long range in a while or would like a fun review.

This 1-day course is for those students who want to learn the basic skills required to make precision first round hits out to 100+ yards. The course contains the basics of marksmanship, position shooting, range and wind estimation, dialing proper scope adjustments and use of a logbook. It is an excellent preparation for our more advanced Long-Range course taught by Bryan Boone.

Expectations and Outcomes

Once you understand the basics, you'll be hitting your targets first time, every time!

Certificates will be awarded at class completion.

Documentation Requirements

Congratulations on your successful registration for the upcoming class with GTAC. Be sure to confirm your date, time, and location. Directions to 17 South Rod and Gun Club are available online. Once you have entered the gate, follow the road to the clubhouse. Park on either side and come on in! We look forward to an informative, safe, and challenging class with you.

Requirements

What to bring:

- Clean, functional rifle with magnification optics mounted, capable of shooting out to 100 yards** (Please make sure your rifle is functional!)  

- A quality turret adjustable scope is recommended. 

- We will help you zero if necessary.  

- Students will need to understand the adjustments of their scope and bring the manual for it if available (the manual will likely be available to print off the internet). Don't stress if you can't find it - we'll help you figure it out, but it's helpful. 

- Rifle or optic specific tools. (i.e. allen wrenches)

- Rifle magazine(s) if required to fire

- Rear bag, Front bag or bipod, or pack capable of functioning as front bag

- At least 100 rounds of good quality ammunition appropriate for your rifle

- Eye and ear protection

- Notebook or logbook with pen or pencil

- Sunscreen, bug spray

- Water, lunch, and any other personal items you may need

- Towel or shooting mat if you decide to shoot from prone position

- Be sure to bring lunch, snack, and water so we can work through lunch and discuss questions while we eat 

As a manual for this class, we strongly recommend "Long Range Shooting Handbook: The Complete Beginner's Guide to Precision Rifle Shooting Paperback" By Ryan Cleckner – available on Amazon.
