Description

The NRA Basic Range Safety Officer (RSO) Course is designed to prepare experienced shooters to perform the primary duties of an RSO.
Learn the skills and knowledge to perform basic commands, range inspection, range rules, emergency procedures, clear firearm stoppages & malfunctions, and the safety and responsibility of shooters at any Gun Range.
RSOs ensure that users of a range follow a range of regulations to reduce property damage and personal injury.
RSOs often have the responsibility to take action when circumstances require it.
The RSO is the range’s official on the firing line to ensure safety and to help shooters.

 

This course does not encompass the functions and responsibilities of a Range Officer, who conducts NRA competitive shooting events as defined by Rule 11.5 of the NRA Rule Books.

Expectations and Outcomes

To develop NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

Course Completion
Students will receive feedback on the practical exercises conducted during the course. At the end of the course, there is a short written test on the lesson material. A 90% score is required to obtain certification.
