About Focus of Thought, LLC
I learned to shoot in/about 2010.
I attended a local USPSA match then to watch a 'then' friend compete. Afterwards, he and I practiced, and I started to understand the basics. From there, my first pistol was a Smith-Wesson MP9 with holster and mag pouch. And, I have expanded further with my collection of firearms. My addiction to the shooting sports continued with a few breaks in-between for shoulder and elbow surgery (not related to the shooting sports, more from the skydiving sport).
Long and short of it -- I started in USPSA and migrated over to IDPA.
Moving ahead a few years and keeping up with the younger generation of shooters and the very much faster generation of competitive shooters became a challenge to me as I am very competitive. These old(er) bones do not move that fast anymore. :) So, as the saying goes; ‘Those that can, do. Those who cannot, teach. :) Hence, I started explaining what I knew about the sport to beginners. Not that I was a champion with any sort of pedigree. However, watching champions, talking with champions, you learn much. And I have been very fortunate. One of my first students is now an IDPA State champion - 1 placer in IDPA Stock pistol competitions - and invited to IDPA Nationals
To be clear -- There is no 'handicap' in shooting (sport or otherwise) to even the score as in golf. Shooting, especially competitive shooting, is 'full on' and in ‘real-time’, all the time. Just like life, there are no ‘do overs’.
