Description
The first steps of familiarization with selecting and using electronic sights on handguns.
Topics Covered
- Zeroing
- Finding Dot from Presentation
- Dry Firing, watching for dot movement and what direction
- Settled dot shooting at smaller targets
- Presenting with an acceptable sight picture, avoiding freezing at the end of presentation
- Rapid firing, testing dot movement and behavior. Is it returning? Direction? Etc.
- Shooting occluded dot, maintaining target focus
- Shooting techniques with no dot (backplate, guillotine, or line on optic)
- Shooting to see where the dot is (immediately at presentation even if not visible)
- One handed shooting
Expectations and Outcomes
Students should expect to leave this class with a better understanding of how to employ a slide mounted MRDS (Mini Red Dot System) on a pistol, the history of the system, advantages and drawbacks, and selection criteria. This course will benefit anyone willing to learn about selecting a red dot, basic maintenance, how to aim as required with them, and the beginning steps of practicing with them.
Students who enroll in this course must be able to load and unload their firearms to make them safe, clear malfunctions, and understand the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship.
